I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with over 30 years experience as a therapist. From this I know that successful outcomes require a safe non-judgmental setting that permits establishment of trust and open communication of feelings and experiences. My first objective is to provide this environment and begin a collaborative relationship to identify the client's destination and resources for reaching it. Utilizing the client's strengths, we work together to activate the process of change.
Over the years I've treated individuals, couples and families for a variety of disorders including depression, anxiety, adjustment disorder, personality issues and behavior problems, to name a sample. Additionally, I've helped clients with parenting, conflict resolution, stage of life changes, loss and grief, and personal growth.
Outside the office, I've collaborated with educational consultants in school settings, served on the adjunct faculty in Virginia Commonwealth University's graduate psychology program, and as a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Psychiatry at that same university. Also, I've worked with an American Red Cross mental health crisis team and participated in numerous presentations, lectures and seminars in the community.
On a personal note, I'm the mother of three grown daughters and have four grandchildren. Having weathered the process of watching babies reach adulthood and becoming beautiful mothers themselves, I have tremendous appreciation for the long journey and continue to celebrate the direction of travel as its significant feature.
